Absinthe beverage - Make the most of now
Friday, November 30th, 2007A hallucinating drink originated from the seventeenth century became well-liked in Europe and further got popularized by the appreciation of artists and writers. Loaded with high alcohol content, absinthe drink is opaque green in color. The word “absinthe” is due to its main ingredient plant “Artemisia absinthium” otherwise known as wormwood. Moreover the leaves with chlorophyll provide bright green color and bitter features.
Wormwood possesses extraordinary properties that were realized by Greek, Egyptian and Roman communities and was used as a medicine. It was prescribed for fever, jaundice, as well as for labor and menstrual pains. Also it helped to expel intestinal worms, therefore assisted proper digestion.
For writers and artists, absinthe appeared to be a stimulant that boosted their creative skills.
However during 1850’s there led a new concern with respect to chronic absinthe intake. Continuous consumption of absinthe drinks was believed to cause a syndrome called absinthism. In other words, chronic use was reason for terrible addiction, delirium, epileptic attacks and high hallucination. So apprehension over health effects caused by absinthe alcohol became an aspect to look out. People even went to the extent of saying that traits acquired by absinthe drinking would be conceded to their children.
Many such reasons including social and political factors supported ban on absinthe liquor centuries ago. Nevertheless none of the bad absinthe effects was proved right nor was based on any scientific evidence. Another insight factor was absinthe liquor being the eyesore of wine makers, whose business was badly affected by immense popularity of absinthe drinks. Anyways the most pity factor was absinthe alcohol made scapegoat owing to heavy or uncontrolled drinking habits of certain people. The matter of fact is that excess intake than moderate amount of any alcohol is definitely harmful.
Blissfully from the modern perspective, an absinthe beverage has proved to be a quality drink with valuable herbs. The four grades of absinthe liquor, that is, ordinaire, demi-fine, fine and superieure has vastly gained popularity far and wide. Even the modern day distillers or absinthe makers use herbs like fennel, hyssop, melissa etc to produce commendable absinthe brands.
Moreover fear of absinthe effects do not exist now, because of industrialization aiding safe techniques of distillation. But poorly made household or cheap (low-priced) absinthe can be still a threat to the health of modern consumers. Nonetheless in spite of all false speculations regarding toxic effects of absinthe liquor, it’s surely a worth drink to gulp down the throat. Truly absinthe drinks does please!
